Our Super Sunday

Yesterday marked the first Sunday I had off work in my new schedule. (in case you missed it I'll now be off Sundays & Thursdays instead of Tuesdays & Thursdays! Yay!)

To celebrate our first day off together we: slept in, went to the Studio City Farmer's Market (grocery shopping is much more fun in the open air), stopped by Trader Joe's (only to find it decorated for the Oscars...with a red carpet!...only in LA), took Adler on a long walk (in the sunshine!), finally ending up at home enjoying Brie & baguettes and the Oscars.

I loved everything about yesterday, and below you can see a little of our Sunday adventure!

How We Got Fat On Tuesday

For our Mardi Gras celebration, Jayson & I found ourselves at the #9 Douchiest Bar in LA (this is actually a list; and if I ever find the link again, I will post it).

The name of this bar is South...& they have beer pong tournaments on Wednesday nights.

But for this wonderful Mardi Gras they had southern food specials and Abita beer, and that's really all a Southern transplant could ask for.

Jayse and I had our Abita beers, nachos and chicken & waffle sliders all for the low low price of $20.76 before tip...which is pretty amazing.

The beer...on tap, the nachos...delicious, the chicken & waffle sliders....eh..they were a little bland.
But our bellies were full, and we left happy.

Check out the pic for a little view of our Fat Tuesday Celebration Meal.

Happy Fat Tuesday!

(don't be fooled: just because there are decorations on the outside, it doesn't mean there are King's Cakes on the inside)

Also learned today, blogger hates "y'all" in the title line.

Weekend Wrap-Up

As this is my last week of being off on Tuesdays & Thursdays (starting next week i'll have Sundays & Thursdays off!!), I thought I would use my "weekend" to share how this last week has gone for the Hamiltons ---or Hamiltonians as we were called this week.

*Valentine's Day happened, and Jayson & I spent it as we always do--at home making pizza & chocolate covered strawberries. This year we added watching multiple episodes of Downton Abbey to the mix.

I got Jayse an array of gifts-library book, music magazines, Pop Rocks & of course, the traditional Irish Accent Mouth Spray (see photo below).

Though I'm not a huge fan of V-Day (as I previously explained) it was nice to have an excuse to do something extra nice.

*This week our friend Anton moved to LA which makes me more than excited! Feel free to follow him & his adventures on Twitter at @APSeim.

*Our friends Zach & Nicole made us a delicious dinner (baked ziti, salad & homemade bread!!!) They are also nice and funny and currently live in Silverlake (which is cool) but the important thing to take away is that they made us dinner. (see photo below and know I forced them to pose behind the food)

*Adler snuck her way onto the couch. It happened slowly with just a paw then before I knew it she was in my lap!

That's the week! Happy Fat Tuesday, y'all!

Brrr....

Just because the holidays are over doesn't mean the chill is gone from the air.

To celebrate the remaining bit of "winter" here in LA, i give you a beautiful rendition of Baby It's Cold Outside.

bundle up!

The Day of Looooove...

I'm not a big "romantic" Valentine's Day girl....I'm more of a $1 bin at target (gel clings anyone?), cheap chocolates, lots of bright colored balloons & stuffed animals Valentine's Day gal.

I don't actually need to own any of these things, or even be given a gift at all, I just like being surrounded by it.

I like holidays because I like themes and I like when people are happy (I've noticed themes either bring out complete joy or utter disdain from people, no matter the occasion.)

Today I woke with a smile because i found homemade cards and snickers from Jayse. He also gave me wild flowers from the Farmer's market a few days ago.

I love all of these things, but don't associate them with Valentine's Day. I'm a lucky girl that gets notes throughout the year, and flowers on occasion because he knows I think flowers makes our place feel homey.

So yes, "romantic" gestures should be year round, but why not take this holiday and have fun with the theme?

Red, pink & hearts for everyone!!

Los Feliz, Part 2

After the bookshop we wandered up and down N Vermont Ave looking for dinner. We finally settled in at Figaro Bistrot.

If you have never been, Figaro is a charming French restaurant with an adorable sidewalk seating area and delicious food.

We lucked out and hit happy hour. We tried their crab cakes, mini burger & onion soup. All absolutely amazing; and even with my cappuccino, it was a very reasonable (& much lower than many LA restaurants) price!

At the end of the night, we realized we had accidentally created a Valentine's Weekend Date for ourselves. Good job us!

So check it out if you're in the LA area!

Los Feliz

Yesterday Jayson picked me up from work and took me to a magical place called Los Feliz.

You see, we had a coupon from an app called ScoutMob that allowed 50% off the item of our choosing from the wonderful bookstore Skylight.

We found a book we've both wanted for a long time, and loved spending time in this quaint area of LA.

Each part of LA is so different from the other that we were really able to feel like we were on vacation!

Here is a little glimpse at Skylight Books (and yes that is a cat hanging out in the bookshop)

Christmas in Our New Home

For our first holiday in Los Angeles, we actually spent very little time actually in LA.
BUT here is a small glimpse of our time here:

and of course no holiday season (by this I mean Thanksgiving & Christmas) would be complete without a little cooking:

I hope you had a wonderful Christmas time at home!

Soon I'll post a little update of our full Christmas Adventures :)
